Nintendo’s second-generation Switch mainframe is now officially on the market, triggering a worldwide outburst of players, selling over 3 million units on a 24-hour basis, and in many cases it has become difficult to reach. However, as the first secondary product, social platforms have already received feedback from a number of players on some quality security issues in Switch 2.

In the Reddit Forum r/NintendoSwitch sub-area, an American user named Tombyt 3 recently posted that the newly purchased Switch 2 back panel showed a clear rise and that it felt clearly “backboard is separated from host subject” when touching it, suspected to be a battery drum. Tombyt3 indicated that he had contacted Nintendo and officially confirmed that he would replace the equipment free of charge.

On the same day, another user, “Huntor 27”, shared similar photographs, the same rise in the Switch 2 he purchased, and the same failure was reflected in comments from a number of other regional players, as well as concerns about the quality of the Switch 2 mainframe, which were raised by the problem of the “repeated multi-equipment” backboard, “which can easily re-press and then be released”.

In the face of Switch 2 backboards, some players speculate that it may be associated with battery expansion, while others consider it to be a plastic backshell or assembly problem. On Reddit, the user suggested that the mainframe should be placed in Nintendo, or that the batteries should be replaced, stating that “although it could be repaired but required specialized tools at a cost of approximately US$ 20-50”.
Switch 2 uses plastic casings, which increase from 398g to 534g in weight, and the Switch 2 battery capacity has increased considerably compared with previous generations, and the lack of overall material strength and battery layout may increase the risk of battery expansion and backboarding.

It’s exactly where the battery is.
The issues raised by Switch 2 are likely to affect the brand and market performance of Nintendo. In 2025, Switch 2 was expected to sell more than 15 million as a flagship product in Nintendo, but the issue of product control could be of great consumer confidence. Nintendo should enhance quality testing and issue transparent solutions to salvage player trust.
